LUNGOS Organisation Profile
Today, LUNGOS has developed into the national platform for Civil Society. It is affiliated to CIVICUS, WANGO, ECOSSOC and ICSW. LUNGOS has a membership of 56 civil society organisations operating in sectors ranging from Socio-Economic, Environment, Health and Social Welfare, to Women’s issues, Human Rights and Democracy. LUNGOS perceives itself as representative of the collective interest of Civil Society Organisations and the voluntary sector in Seychelles. This role is generally accepted by NGOS, the state and other stakeholders. LUNGOS acts as interface with other state and non state actors nationally and internationally, to create added value and bring benefit to the community at large. LUNGOS also sees itself as an active partner and valuable contributor towards national development policies, participating actively from the decision making point, towards project initiation, implementation and evaluation, thus having an impact at all levels of society.

Over the two decades, LUNGOS has seen itself consolidating its role as the national focal point for civil society in Seychelles, establishing collaborative partnerships with a multitude of organisations of world repute. LUNGOS has played a key role in voicing the needs and concerns of the country’s civil society and in advocating greater civil society involvement in national development and decision-making. LUNGOS is regularly consulted by international bodies such as IMF, ADB, World Bank, EU as they seek inputs of civil society organisations on various development issues.
LUNGOS is dedicated to facilitating the role and capacity of Civil Society to effectively contribute in policy processes and national development initiatives. In addition, LUNGOS provides an array of training and development activities to NGO members. This is primarily achieved through its Academy of Civil Society (Acts) established in 2008.
In June 2008, LUNGOS set the cornerstone for a more participatory civil society through the signing of a
Memorandum of Understanding with the Seychelles Government. To date, LUNGOS has permanent seats on a number of National Boards and Committees.
